Program Description

The Associate of Science in Music degree provides students with a variety of courses in music appreciation, theory, harmony, and performance. In addition to music teaching, students who complete the Music major may pursue employment opportunities as a church musician or director, professional performer, or in the music industry. All students are advised to select academic courses which will coincide with their intended careers. Students should become familiar with the college catalog of the intended transfer college. Students who plan to transfer are encouraged to check the catalogs from four-year colleges or universities for baccalaureate requirements.

Demonstrate proficiency on an orchestral/band instrument, piano, voice, or guitar

Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals of music

Write harmonizations in both diatonic and chromatic styles

Utilize aural skills developed through sight-singing, ear training and musical dictation

Perform in a recital, demonstrating both the technical and artistic components of music
