Program Description

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Health Science is for practicing allied healthcare paraprofessionals who have graduated from an accredited (non credit) postsecondary education program with a certificate and/or diploma and who are certified or licensed to practice in their chosen field.. Certification or licensure must be recognized by the appropriate accrediting agencies. This program offers the general education component which, when completed and combined with credit awarded for prior postsecondary healthcare education, may qualify the student to be awarded an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree in Health Science. Applicants must meet the general admission criteria of the college and must first apply to the collge and submit all transcripts to admissions. Submission of a syllabus outlining hours spent in theory, clinical and laboratory must be submitted to review along with a copy of a current license or certificate or diploma from the completed program. The number of credits awarded for non-credit post-secondary healthcare education will be determined after a review of the number of hours delineated in the documentation. A maximum of thirty credits may be awarded for the core credits of the degree. A ratio of one credit per one hour of didactic (theory) will be utilized along with a ratio of one credit per three hours of clinical or laboratory education. Completion of the general education credits is a requirement for the degree. If the credits granted for the core do not equal 30, the student can fulfil additional credits with HWP and HIT or other applicable courses such as sociology and psychology. This curriculum does not confer eligibility for advanced certification nor advanced licensure within the healthcare disciplines.
