Description

This course gives students the fundamentals they need to begin studying Chinese including the language's syllabic structure, "pinyin" (the official Romanization system for Standard Chinese), and pronunciation, radicals, and stroke orders for a solid foundation of character recognition and writing. Students will also learn vocabulary and grammar points related to the following topics: greetings, family, dates and time, hobbies, visiting friends, and making appointments. In addition to a focus on Chinese language foundation and communicative abilities and skills, and cultural literacy, compare and contrast activities will promote students' awareness of cultural diversity in a world of rapid globalization. 3/0/0
